About the event

We’re excited to be back at Lee Valley again so soon, and after the success of the August Club Session (thanks Matt!), will again be accommodating newer riders as well as those with more of a race focus (and maybe even a tandem or two!), so whatever your race or training plan get this in your diary!

As ever; all members are welcome and will be challenged at their level. Full details of session devised and coached by Olivier below:

Race group (RG) & skills group (SG).

Block 1

(RG 1-15min) Warm-up with pairs on the blue, single file black line, half lap changes, quarter lap changes, changes on the whistle, laps on the board.

(SG 15-30min) Warm-up skills group, similar to above or adapted depending on experience.

Depending on numbers and experience, warm-up possibly shared to gain time.

Block 2

(30-50 RG) Seated acceleration with out of the saddle kick. 3 abreast equidistant above red; front 3 seated acceleration to entry of backstraight, then soft pedal backstraight, to kick again out of the saddle into turn 3 and sprint to the finish line.

Riders to hold their line throughout the accelerations and sprints. Then swing up top of the fence for high and slow, then join back of resting group.

(50-70 SG) As above, or if too challenging, fanning every two laps.

Block 3

(70-85 RG) Controlled bunch with attacks. Group rides as a bunch on the black line. Attacks and lap takes allowed, but max X riders at a time (depending on group size). When whistle goes once, the group pulls up above the blue. When twice, back to the black line. Riders can control intensity by choosing to attack, drive the bunch or simply sit in practising bunch skills. Set yourself 2-3 things to try.

Block 4

(85-100 SG) Clockwise rotation with optional lap take. Low-intensity group skill but with the option for riders who want an effort to get out of the saddle when they hit the front on the black line to go for a lap. Max number of attacking riders depending on group size.

Block 5

100-110. Italian pursuit burner. Split into two groups. Possibly run at the same time, depending on numbers.

Groups single file on the black. First rider goes all-out until dying (stay put on black line). When the second rider feels that rider one is fading, overtake followed by rest of the string. When rider 2 fades, raceline overtakes again etc etc until everyone has gone. Two runs. Simulates the intensity of race situations where feel and timing are crucial. Overtake before you drop speed.

110-120. Same as above.

The session will of course be followed by a recovery social at Track Nation sponsor Mother Kelly's (a short walk from the velodrome) where all will be revealed about gear ratios and morphological exemptions!

See you there!
